American Literature and Composition is a literature-based course following the path of American History. It offers students a survey of materials by authors who have impacted our history and culture beginning with the early settlers through modern times. Writing is stressed with an emphasis on thesis, supporting details, organization and analysis. Students will learn the process of writing a research report.
This class is responsible for the production of the annual school yearbook. Students will be required to go into the community and sell advertisements, create the design and theme of the book, attend multiple events to photograph, write body copy and captions of many layout assignments, and participate in fund raising events. Student s will learn marketing skills, finance skills, planning and organizing with due dates, while working with in Design CS2 and image In. Students will also learn to write from a journalist perspective and will be required to commit time out of the class period and the school day to complete assignments.
